Letters Against Isolation (LAI)
Posted in:

Concerned that their grandparents were isolated during COVID, teenage sisters Shreya and Saffron Patel began calling daily. Then the sisters decided to send letters to their grandparents and other seniors. They expected a two-week project, but they were wrong. Word got out about the letters’ impact and the requests poured in. The sisters responded by building a nonprofit, and since April 2020, more than seventy-five thousand volunteers have sent almost a million letters to isolated seniors in the U.S., Australia, Canada and the U.K. LAI plans to expand to other countries as it finds local volunteers to support those efforts.
